Jammu, Jan 12 (KNO): The Army intercepted several drones suspected to be from Pakistan along International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region on Monday. An official while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “Late Sunday evening, soldiers detected a drone near the Naushera sector in Rajouri district. Counter-unmanned aerial systems were immediately activated, forcing the drone to retreat across the LoC. No casualties or damage were reported.” The official said that five separate drone sightings were recorded along the LoC and the International Border, including multiple attempts at reconnaissance in sensitive areas. “Alert Army units engaged the intruding drones promptly using standard counter-drone measures, preventing further intrusion,” he added. Security has been further stepped up in forward areas of Rajouri and adjoining sectors, with surveillance and monitoring intensified to deal with any future attempts, he said. Authorities said that drones are often used by terror groups, allegedly with support from Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, to smuggle weapons, cash, and narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir. These consignments are typically collected by local operatives and passed on to terrorists. The deployment of anti-drone systems along both the LoC and International Border has significantly reduced the success of such operations, he said. “In addition, police in Samba district increased vigilance after a suspected Pakistani drone was spotted near Ramgarh. Special naka points have been established for vehicle checks in the area,” the official said, adding, “Separately, Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out a search operation near the International Border at Ranbir Singh Pura, on the outskirts of Jammu, as part of ongoing anti-infiltration measures.” All measures are aimed at maintaining high alert along the borders and ensuring the safety of citizens during the Republic Day period—(KNO)
